Accessing and using our website

Your personal data is collected when you access and use our website with an internet browser on the end device you use for technical provision and to ensure the functionality and security of our website. A computer or smartphone with an internet browser, for example, can be used as a terminal device.

Purpose of processing: If you contact us via an online form on the website or by email, the data you provide will be processed for the purpose of handling your demand and for follow-up questions. We will not pass on this data without your consent.

Legal basis: The processing of your personal data in the context of establishing contact is based on the implementation of pre-contractual measures in accordance with Art. 6 (1) point b GDPR and on your consent in accordance with Art. 6 (1) point a GDPR.

Withdrawal of consent: You can withdraw your consent at any time. The withdrawal of consent shall not affect the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

Newsletter

Purpose of processing: The personal data you provide when registering to receive a selected newsletter will be processed for the purpose of sending information by email, including information on studying and teaching, research and events.

For this purpose, we process the following personal data about you:

  • Name
  • Gender
  • Email address

Legal basis: The data processing of your personal data is based exclusively on the consent you have given (Art. 6 para. 1 lit a GDPR) to send you the newsletter.

We use a so-called double opt-in procedure for granting your consent. Specifically, the procedure is as follows:

1. By clicking the “Register” button, the registration form is sent to us.

2. You will then receive an automated e-mail from us confirming receipt of your registration.

3. This e-mail contains a temporarily valid link that you can click on within 30 days if you wish to complete the registration.

4. If you click on the link within the specified validity period, registration for our newsletter is complete and we will store the consent you have given in our system.

Storage period: The data processed for the purposes mentioned will be stored until you revoke your consent to receive the newsletter. Beyond that, only the absolutely necessary data will be stored in accordance with the applicable legal provisions for the purpose of providing evidence of your consent or your revocation.

Withdrawal of consent: You can withdraw your consent to receive a particular newsletter at any time on the corresponding newsletter unsubscribe page on the UWK website. You can also unsubscribe from any individual newsletter at any time by clicking on the “Unsubscribe newsletter” button at the end of each newsletter. The withdrawal of your consent does not affect the lawfulness of the processing carried out on the basis of your consent up to the withdrawal.

Use of cookies

In addition, when you access and use our website, we use cookies, which are stored on your device. Please note that we do not accept any liability for the disclosure of information due to errors in data transmission that are not caused by us or attributable to us and/or unauthorized access by third parties.

Your rights

As a user of our website, you have the following rights:

  • Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR): You have the right to request confirmation from UWK as to whether your personal data is being processed. In addition, you have the right to request further information about the specific processing purposes, categories of personal data, recipients or categories of recipients of personal data, storage duration, the existence of a right to request the erasure or rectification of your personal data or restriction of processing and the right to object, the existence of a right to lodge a complaint, as well as all available information about the source of your data.

  • Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18 GDPR): In the cases specified in Art. 18 GDPR (e.g. inaccuracy of the processed personal data, unlawfulness of the processing, etc.), you also have the right to demand that UWK restrict the processing.
  • Right to data portability (Art. 20 GDPR): You have the right to receive the personal data concerning you, which you have provided to UWK, in a structured, commonly used format and to request that UWK transmits this data to another controller (e.g. to another law firm).
