FRIEDRICH CERHA - Sequence & Polyvalence
On the occasion of Friedrich Cerha's 90th birthday, the Forum Frohner in cooperation with the Archives of Contemporary Arts – A Collection of Artistic Pre-mortem Bequests and Post-mortem Estates at Danube University Krems will present an aspect of the artistic oeuvre of the exceptional artist that the public has so far not been very familiar with: his works in the visual art.
Since the 1950s, Friedrich Cerha has been continuously solidifying his interaction in the area of visual arts in parallel with his important musical work, predominantly in the form of assemblages, but also in the form of painting. Plasticity is generated through the use of found objects just as much as through the material approach to colour. Friedrich Cerha, who in his texts eloquently establishes relations between the different disciplines of his extensive artistic expression, follows certain threads – all comprehensible in a serial process - for several decades. His varied immersion and focussing on factors such as rhythm or polychromy gives his extensive body of work, comprising of more than 900 objects, a structure.
